National PTSD Day

Today is National PTSD Day, so AAHC is writing this entry in honor of all those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a disorder that develops in some people who have experienced trauma in their lives, such as a dreadful, frightening, or dangerous event. About 8% of the population will struggle with PTSD at some point in their lives.  Anyone can develop PTSD, including children.

There are many types of therapies that can help PTSD, but AAHC focuses on using animals in the therapeutic approach. Equine-assisted psychotherapy, canine-assisted psychotherapy, and therapeutic horseback riding are all types of animal-assisted therapies that can treat PTSD.
