EQUINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY

Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) uses horses as therapeutic tools. Clients interact personally with the horses in ways that are shown to encourage growth and learning. Interacting with horses teaches one to become grounded and be able to adapt to situations. It requires patience and focus, which can cause underlying emotional issues to come up. The horses’ actions and reactions can help one identify patterns in their life and teach how to alter those patterns if needed. By learning to work with and communicate with the horse, one can apply the same skills to their inter-personal relationships and increase general well-being.

Our program is based off of the EAGALA model, which is client-centered and solution-oriented. It is a team approach using both a Mental Health Professional and an Equine Specialist. EAP can help with behavioral issues, attention deficit disorder, substance abuse, eating disorders, abuse issues, anxiety, PTSD, depression, relationship problems, and communication.
