Meet Our Team Members
Janet Wilson, Clinical Director
Janet graduated from Westminster with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and from the University of Utah with a Master’s in Social Work. She has worked at the University of Utah Hospital as a Crisis Worker in the Emergency Room and as a Mental Health Examiner for Salt Lake County. Janet has been an expert witness in District and Juvenile Court. She has experience in doing Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) with first responders and employees of organizations, who have experienced a life-changing trauma incident.
Janet is a Certified Crisis Counselor for the State of Utah. Her expertise includes trauma-focused therapy. Janet is EMDRIA Approved and Certified Consultant, an EMDRIA Training Facilitator and a HAP Approved Facilitator. Janet has extensive training in EMDR, specifically in treating complex trauma (multiple traumas), sexual abuse, and women’s issues. Janet has a Facility Dog from Canine Companions (CC). Flower, her dog, can work with all ages of individual clients and groups. Janet approaches therapy from a systems perspective including the entire family even when working with individuals. She uses an array of evidence-based practices with all her clients. Janet specializes in diagnosing, treating, and developing appropriate treatment plans for individuals and families. She has worked with mood disorders, traumatic events, chronic mental health problems, and parenting issues.
Janelle Nimer, Executive Director
Janelle Nimer, Ph.D., LCSW has over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families achieving their therapeutic goals. Dr. Nimer graduated from the University of Utah with a Master’s in Social Work and from the University of Tennessee with a Doctorate in Social Work. Dr. Nimer also completed a three-year doctoral fellowship focusing on Veterinary Social Work. She also worked at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital where she was able to work with children in crises, who had experienced a traumatic event, and who were dealing with chronic illnesses.
Dr. Nimer approaches therapy from a systems perspective including the entire family even when working with individuals. Dr. Nimer uses an array of evidence-based practices with all her clients. She is the former Chair of the board of Therapy Animals of Utah (an affiliate of Pet Partners formerly known as Delta Society). Dr. Nimer is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Registered Play Therapy Certification (RPT), Animal-Assisted Play Therapy (AAPT), and Equine Assisted Growth and Learning (EAGALA). Dr. Nimer has been conducting animal-assisted interventions for over 10 years. She has been an expert witness in Juvenile Court. She also has experience in doing Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) with first responders to a disaster, and employees of organizations, who have experienced a life-changing grief and trauma incident(s).
